Answers to Your Shoulder Pain Questions With our Lincoln Chiropractor
Our Lincoln chiropractor, Dr. Gregory Lott, answers your questions about the complex shoulder joint. The shoulder joint allows you to move your arm in multiple directions, but that also means this joint is susceptible to injuries.
What are common causes of shoulder pain?
Your shoulders may be overused, subjected to repetitive movements such as waxing a car or throwing a ball, you may lift a heavy object or an impact injury can cause shoulder pain. Dr. Lott looks for the source of your shoulder pain and some of the most common causes include:
- A dislocated shoulder in which the upper arm bone moves out of the protective shoulder socket.
- Shoulder bursae conditions in which the cushiony bursae sac is inflamed from repetitive movements or impact injury.
- Frozen shoulder in which the joint locks in a position that limits your range of motion.
- Rotator cuff injuries in which the muscles that support shoulder rotation are strained, pulled or swollen.
- Muscle strains in the shoulder muscles or strains on the shoulder joint also cause shoulder pain from lifting heavy objects or overuse.
- Tendinitis which is an inflammation of the shoulder tendons.
How does chiropractic care ease shoulder discomfort?
Our chiropractor uses gentle joint adjustments to position your shoulder in an alignment that does not cause pain. This alignment also allows your body to begin the healing process by increasing circulation and nerve signal flow to the injured area. Dr. Lott may also use cold laser treatments if your injury is muscular as the laser penetrates into the deep layers of muscle tissue to promote faster healing. As you progress, the health staff at Lott Chiropractic Clinic will show you therapy exercises to restore your strength and range of motion.
